Courage Under Fire: A&N Firefighters Honored on Fire Service Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 13: On the 70th Fire Service Day, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands saluted the unyielding spirit and courage of its firefighting forces, who in 2024 alone responded to 392 fire emergencies and 807 special service calls- protecting lives and property worth over ₹166 crore.

In his message to the force, Lt. Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi praised their “unwavering dedication, valour, and efficiency” while underscoring the importance of their role in keeping islanders safe in emergencies.

From narrow, inaccessible lanes to remote settlements, the island’s firefighters continue to defy logistical odds, often being the first and only line of defense. Their fire safety campaigns, mock drills, and audits across schools, hospitals, cinemas, and hotels have become integral to the UT’s emergency preparedness efforts.

The Lt. Governor called their professionalism “a beacon of hope and resilience” for the island community and acknowledged their growing contribution toward public awareness and disaster readiness.
