Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) April 8: Firefighters at Baratang conducted a refresher training programme for enlisted Fire Mitras to strengthen emergency response capabilities and reinforce fire safety preparedness in the region.
The training session was held on April 7 at Fire Station Baratang, where volunteers who had previously undergone basic training were reoriented on key firefighting practices. The programme focused on updating participants’ knowledge and enhancing their readiness to respond effectively during fire incidents and other emergencies.

Officials stated that the refresher course aimed to reinforce the skills imparted during earlier training sessions while introducing updated firefighting techniques and safety protocols. Participants were guided through practical demonstrations designed to improve their understanding of response mechanisms in real-time situations.
The session included hands-on exercises and briefings on operational procedures followed by Fire and Emergency Services. Firefighters demonstrated standard practices to be followed during emergencies, ensuring that Fire Mitras remain equipped to assist trained personnel when required.
Authorities noted that such refresher programmes play a crucial role in maintaining the preparedness of community volunteers. By regularly updating their skills, Fire Mitras can provide immediate support during emergencies, especially in areas where quick response is critical.
The initiative also underscores the importance of community involvement in disaster and fire management. Officials highlighted that trained volunteers act as an important support system for Fire and Emergency Services, contributing to faster response and better coordination during crisis situations.
The training programme forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots-level preparedness and build a network of trained individuals capable of assisting in emergency response operations.
Further such sessions are expected to continue to ensure that Fire Mitras remain well-prepared and aligned with current firefighting standards and safety practices.
