A block-level training programme focusing on the role of Gram Panchayats in promoting health, well-being, and disease prevention was held at the CMTC Building, Ferrargunj, under the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA). The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of Panchayat members and health functionaries in fostering awareness on mental and physical health at the grassroots level.
The training brought together 86 participants, including Pradhans, Panchayat Secretaries, ANMs, Anganwadi Workers, and members of Gram Panchayat Health and Sanitation Committees. Organizers emphasized the critical role of local governance in implementing preventive healthcare initiatives and ensuring community well-being.
In her opening address, BPM Ferrargunj, Saakshi Saha, outlined the objectives of the training, emphasizing the proactive role of Gram Panchayats in promoting health awareness and preventive care within their communities. She highlighted the importance of integrating both mental and physical health awareness into local governance practices to improve overall community outcomes.
The introductory session, led by C. Vijaya, Domain Expert in Women Empowerment, provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the programme’s theme, highlighting best practices for community engagement and effective health promotion strategies. Following this, Madan Singh, Health Educator at AAM Ferrargunj, spoke on preventive healthcare practices, stressing the importance of behavioral change and consistent community outreach to reduce the prevalence of common health issues.
An interactive activity session, conducted by Public Health Nurse Fathima Zohra, engaged participants in practical exercises aimed at reinforcing their understanding of health awareness and hygiene practices. The session encouraged active participation, problem-solving, and knowledge sharing among Panchayat members and health workers, fostering a collaborative approach to community health promotion.
The training also featured a prize distribution segment recognizing participants who excelled in various activities. Panchayat Secretary, Wandoor, Kakoli Ghosh secured the first prize, followed by ANM, AAM Ferrargunj, Grace Toppo in second place, and Panchayat Secretary, Ferrargunj and Brindaban, Mohd. Jabir, in third place. BDO Ferrargunj, Lalita Tigga, addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of continuous capacity building for local governance bodies to ensure sustained health awareness initiatives in the community.
The programme reinforced the administration’s commitment to building strong, informed, and proactive Gram Panchayats capable of addressing health challenges and promoting hygiene practices at the village level. It also highlighted the significance of integrating mental and physical health awareness into everyday governance, empowering local bodies to contribute effectively to the overall well-being of their communities.
This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts under the RGSA to enhance the effectiveness of Panchayati Raj institutions in delivering essential services and fostering community resilience through education, training, and awareness-building activities.
