In a continued effort to protect government land and ensure its lawful utilization, the District Administration of South Andaman conducted an encroachment removal drive at Muslim Basti village under Ferrargunj Tehsil on Monday. The initiative is part of the administration’s broader strategy to curb illegal occupation of public land and maintain the rule of law across the district.
During the operation, officials identified illegal encroachment spanning approximately 4000 square metres of land recorded under government khata. The encroached land featured unauthorised fencing and temporary sheds, which were dismantled during the drive. The area was subsequently restored to its original condition.
The operation was conducted peacefully, with no disruption to public order. The coordination between Revenue Department officials, the local police force, and enforcement teams ensured that the removal process was smooth and efficient. The swift action also reinforced the administration’s stance on illegal land occupation and its commitment to protecting public property.
Reaffirming its firm position, the District Administration emphasized that such anti-encroachment drives will continue across the district in all locations where unauthorized occupation is detected. The authorities have made it clear that there will be no tolerance towards encroachments on government land.
Citizens have been urged to refrain from occupying public land without due legal authorization. The administration appealed for public cooperation in preserving government assets and upholding the rule of law, reiterating that community support is crucial in curbing unlawful practices related to land encroachment.
The Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman has reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards encroachment and issued a public caution. He reminded citizens that occupying government land without appropriate permissions is a punishable offense and that the administration will take necessary steps to prevent and penalize such activities.
To encourage civic participation, the District Administration has also provided contact numbers for the general public to report any encroachments or raise related queries. People can reach the District Control Room at 03192-240127, 238881, 1070, or via WhatsApp at 9531888844. Officials have assured that the identity of those providing information will be kept confidential to safeguard their privacy and ensure their security.
The administration’s move to conduct systematic and peaceful drives signals its continued resolve to address unauthorized land use and restore rightful control over government property. These operations, as noted by officials, are part of a sustained campaign to deter future violations and uphold lawful governance in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
