The Election Department of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands has intensified the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls with a parallel voter education drive to ensure accuracy and wider participation in the democratic process. The enumeration phase, which began on November 4 and continues until December 4, 2025, marks a comprehensive update to the electoral records across the Union Territory. The exercise aims to make sure that every eligible voter is included and every ineligible entry is removed, strengthening the integrity of the electoral system.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are visiting households to distribute pre-printed enumeration forms in duplicate to all registered electors. Each form already contains the voter’s basic details such as name, EPIC number, address, constituency and photograph. Voters have been advised to verify these details carefully and fill in the remaining fields, including date of birth, optional Aadhaar number, mobile number, and parent’s or guardian’s names. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), L. Kumar, has urged residents to complete and return the forms promptly to ensure their names appear in the draft electoral roll scheduled for publication on December 9.
For accurate record-mapping, electors are encouraged to check their names or those of their parents or grandparents in the last SIR held in 2002. The CEO’s website—https://www.ceoandaman.nic.in—provides access to the 2002 rolls in PDF format, organised tehsil-wise and part-wise. Voters can also use an online search tool at https://ceo.andamannicobar.gov.in/sir2002/ to locate entries by EPIC number, name, relative’s name, house number, part number or serial number. These details help establish linkage between previous and current records, thereby improving the transparency of the roll-revision process.
The CEO Office has also opened help desks at the offices of Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and set up a voter helpline on 1950 for queries related to the ongoing revision. Officials have reiterated that the exercise is critical to maintaining a clean electoral roll and enabling citizens to participate confidently in upcoming elections.
Complementing the administrative process, the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Andaman College (ANCOL) organised an awareness programme to familiarise students with the significance of the SIR and the role of young voters in democracy. Resource persons delivered presentations explaining the enumeration steps and guiding students on how to fill the forms accurately. The session also encouraged students to act as ambassadors of voter awareness by spreading information about the revision within their communities.
Addressing the gathering, Principal S. Jayakumar emphasised that youth engagement is fundamental to the vitality of democracy and that registering early as voters gives young citizens a voice in shaping public policy. N. Balakrishnan, Nodal Officer (SVEEP), highlighted various Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation initiatives undertaken across the islands to strengthen civic literacy. He urged students to register and take part in the democratic process actively.
Adding to the discussion, R. P. Palanisamy, Nodal Officer of the ELC at JNRM, appreciated the college’s role in promoting electoral education. Resource persons Rajaram and Senthil delivered practical sessions on responsible citizenship and the power of informed voting. Around 100 students participated in the event, taking part in quizzes and interactive exercises that tested their knowledge about the election process.
Officials observed that the collaboration between the Election Department and educational institutions like ANCOL demonstrates how voter education can effectively bridge the gap between governance and civic participation. By engaging students and local communities, the campaign ensures that awareness about voting rights reaches every corner of the islands.
The dual approach of on-ground enumeration and institutional outreach reflects a comprehensive effort to uphold the democratic ethos of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. As the revision continues, authorities are confident that the exercise will result in cleaner, more accurate electoral rolls and a better-informed electorate ready to participate in the forthcoming democratic cycles.
