A two-day education expo bringing together nearly 20 Indian and international universities will be held in Sri Vijaya Puram on April 4 and 5, aiming to provide students in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands direct access to higher education opportunities without the need to travel to the mainland.
Organised by Future Corridor, the 9th edition of the event is scheduled at Hotel Lemon Tree from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and has been timed to follow the completion of CBSE Board examinations. The organisers state that the initiative is intended to address long-standing accessibility challenges faced by students in remote island regions by creating a central platform for academic engagement.
Participating institutions include universities such as Lovely Professional University, Marwadi University, Alliance University, Mahindra University, and The Neotia University. Many of these institutions are ranked among the top 100 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), according to the organisers.
The expo is expected to offer information on more than 500 academic programmes, covering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral-level courses. Students and parents will have the opportunity to interact directly with university representatives, including deans, directors, and admission officials, to seek clarity on course structures, eligibility criteria, admission processes, hostel facilities, and education loan options.
Officials said that the event is designed to enable informed decision-making by allowing families to compare multiple institutions in one place. This approach is expected to reduce the need for costly travel to mainland cities, which has traditionally been a barrier for many students in the islands seeking higher education opportunities.
In addition to academic guidance, the expo will also provide financial incentives, including waivers on application fees and access to scholarship opportunities. Organisers indicated that more than ₹89 lakh in scholarships were awarded to students during the previous edition of the event.
Ahead of the main expo, a pre-event marathon and carnival will be conducted on April 3 from 5:00 AM. The pre-expo activities will include quiz competitions, painting contests, technical and cultural events, and a ramp walk, aimed at increasing student engagement and participation.
The organisers stated that by bringing universities directly to the islands, the expo seeks to create a transparent and accessible environment for students and parents to explore higher education pathways. The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to expand awareness and accessibility of academic opportunities in geographically isolated regions.
