DISHA Committee Reviews Implementation of Schemes in North and Middle Andaman

Implementation of government schemes in North and Middle Andaman came under review on February 27 during a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee, reflecting an emphasis on closer oversight and coordination among departments. The meeting was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, North and Middle Andaman, and focused on assessing the status of ongoing programmes across sectors.

During the review, the progress of schemes being implemented by various line departments in the district was examined in detail. Discussions covered both physical and financial performance, with particular attention given to identifying bottlenecks that could affect timelines or delivery of intended benefits to the public. The forum also examined the degree of coordination among departments, a factor seen as critical for effective execution at the district level.

The review process involved a department-wise assessment of implementation status, allowing the committee to take stock of achievements as well as areas requiring corrective measures. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that sanctioned works move forward without avoidable delays and that resources are utilised in line with approved objectives.

Issues related to monitoring mechanisms and transparency were also deliberated upon during the meeting. The committee underscored the importance of regular field-level reviews and accurate reporting to ensure that schemes translate into tangible outcomes for residents of the district. Departments were advised to maintain updated records and improve internal coordination to address operational challenges.

Directions were issued to concerned departments to expedite pending works and strengthen follow-up mechanisms. The focus, according to officials present, was on improving service delivery and ensuring that development initiatives reach intended beneficiaries within stipulated timeframes.

Assurances were given that recommendations and directions emerging from the meeting would be implemented in a time-bound manner. The district administration indicated that compliance with the committee’s observations would be closely tracked, with future reviews expected to assess progress on action points raised during the meeting.

The DISHA platform continues to function as a key mechanism for parliamentary oversight of development programmes at the district level, providing a structured forum to review implementation and align administrative efforts with policy objectives.
