Sri Vijaya Puram, May 27: The Department of Social Welfare of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration will conduct a series of Disability Assessment Camps across the islands from June 22 to June 28, 2026, aimed at identifying eligible beneficiaries for assistive devices and support services under the ADIP and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) schemes.
The initiative is being organised in coordination with the Composite Regional Centre (CRC), PMDK, Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Officials said the camps are intended to facilitate assessment and identification of Divyangjan and senior citizens requiring assistive devices to improve mobility, accessibility and quality of life. The programme will cover multiple locations across South, Middle and North Andaman districts.
The first camp will be held at CRC Brookshabad on June 22 from 9 am to 2 pm, followed by camps at PHC Ferrargunj on June 23 and PHC Baratang on June 25. Further camps are scheduled at CHC Rangat on June 26, District Hospital Mayabunder on June 27 and CHC Diglipur on June 28.
The Department has urged eligible beneficiaries to attend the camps at the venue nearest to them along with required documents and passport-sized photographs.
For Divyangjan beneficiaries, mandatory documents include a Unique Disability ID (UDID) card, Aadhaar card and income certificate showing a monthly income below Rs 22,500. Senior citizens aged 60 years and above applying under the RVY scheme must produce Aadhaar and an income certificate showing monthly income below Rs 15,000.
Officials stated that the camps will help identify individuals requiring hearing aids, wheelchairs, walking aids, artificial limbs and other assistive devices depending on individual assessment and medical requirements.
The ADIP scheme, implemented by the Government of India, focuses on providing modern and scientifically manufactured aids and appliances to persons with disabilities to enhance their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation. The Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana similarly supports senior citizens belonging to economically weaker sections who suffer from age-related disabilities or mobility limitations.
Authorities said the camps are expected to benefit residents from remote and rural regions of the islands where access to specialised disability assessment facilities remains limited. By bringing assessment services closer to communities, the Administration aims to ensure wider outreach and inclusion.
The involvement of ALIMCO, a Government of India undertaking specialising in manufacturing rehabilitation aids and assistive devices, is expected to support streamlined assessment and future distribution processes for identified beneficiaries.
Officials from the Department of Social Welfare said awareness efforts are also being undertaken through Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) offices and local administrative channels to ensure maximum participation from eligible individuals.
The Administration has appealed to Divyangjan and senior citizens to make use of the opportunity and complete their assessments during the scheduled camps. Authorities added that early identification and timely provision of assistive devices can significantly improve independence, mobility and participation in daily life for beneficiaries.
For further information, beneficiaries may contact the Nodal Officer (Disability) through the Department’s helpline numbers or approach the nearest CDPO office for guidance regarding eligibility and documentation requirements.
