Sri Vijaya Puram, April 20: A blind hit-and-run case reported from Diglipur in North and Middle Andaman exposed concerns over road safety and poor visibility, even as police managed to identify the accused and seize the vehicle within 24 hours of the incident.
The case was registered at Police Station Diglipur on April 16, 2026, after an accident on Shyamnagar Road where the driver fled the scene, leaving behind no immediate clues about the vehicle or identity. The absence of witnesses and poor lighting conditions at the accident site further complicated the initial investigation.
With no direct leads available, investigators initiated a multi-pronged probe, relying on a network of informers, technical surveillance, and ground-level coordination. CCTV footage from multiple locations was examined to reconstruct the movement of vehicles in and around the area during the relevant time frame. Simultaneously, local garage mechanics were contacted to track any suspicious or recently damaged vehicles that could be linked to the incident.

Despite the limitations posed by low visibility at the accident site and lack of identifiable evidence at the outset, credible inputs, supported by CCTV analysis, helped narrow down the search. Investigators were able to identify the vehicle involved and trace it back to a resident of Madhupur.
The accused has been identified and served notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The vehicle suspected to be involved in the hit-and-run has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials said further inquiry is underway to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances leading to the incident. The condition of the victim has not been detailed in the available information.
The case highlights persistent challenges in addressing hit-and-run incidents in areas with inadequate street lighting and limited immediate surveillance coverage, which can delay identification of offenders and complicate evidence gathering.
Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any credible information related to crimes or illegal activities. Citizens can report information to their nearest police station or through helpline numbers 100, 112, and 03192-273344. Officials assured that the identity of informers will be kept confidential and suitable rewards may be provided.
The investigation remains in progress.
