The Directorate of Education has announced the timeline for admission to the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) course at Dr. S.R. District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Garacharma, for the academic year 2025-26. As per the notification, the provisional merit list of applicants will be published on July 8, 2025. The list will be available both on the Common College Admission Portal (http://collegeadmission.andaman.gov.in) and on the DIET campus notice board.
The D.El.Ed programme is considered a vital step for those aspiring to enter the teaching profession at the elementary level. The course is especially popular among students from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, offering an accredited path into the education sector. Given the competitive nature of the programme and the limited number of seats available, the release of the merit list is a significant event in the region’s academic calendar.
Following the release of the provisional list, a window for submission of claims and objections has been scheduled from July 9 to July 11. During this period, candidates can raise grievances regarding their position or any discrepancies in the list. Submissions can be made directly to the Principal of DIET, Garacharma or through the official email address: prdiet2012@gmail.com. The administration has specified that the deadline for grievance submission is 5 pm on July 11.
After reviewing the objections and making necessary corrections, the final merit list will be published on July 14 at 10 am. Subsequently, counselling for selected candidates will be conducted in two phases: July 16 for candidates from the Humanities stream, and July 17 for those from the Science stream. This structured schedule is designed to ensure an orderly admission process while addressing all student concerns in a timely manner.
The institution has also provided two helpline numbers (94342276102 and 9434272428) to assist applicants with any queries related to the admission process. These lines are expected to remain active throughout the admission window.
DIET Garacharma has long served as the premier institute for teacher education in the islands. The D.El.Ed course, which focuses on pedagogy, classroom management, and foundational subject knowledge, equips future teachers to serve in schools across remote and urban areas of the territory. Over the years, the institute has maintained high academic standards, making its selection process competitive.
This year’s admission process is also part of a broader move towards digitisation and transparency. The Common College Admission Portal has enabled wider access and more efficient processing, particularly helpful for students residing in far-flung islands.
The release of the final list and the subsequent counselling process are expected to be followed closely by both candidates and educational stakeholders. As the demand for trained elementary school teachers continues to grow, the D.El.Ed programme remains a critical pipeline for meeting the region’s educational needs.
In addition to regular coursework, students admitted to DIET also benefit from practical teaching experiences, workshops, and exposure to contemporary teaching methodologies. The rigorous training helps ensure that graduates are classroom-ready and capable of handling the challenges of teaching in diverse environments.
With the process now underway, prospective candidates are advised to keep track of official updates and ensure timely submission of any required documents or claims. The administration has reiterated the importance of meeting all deadlines to avoid disqualification.
As the admission schedule proceeds as planned, the academic year 2025-26 promises to bring another batch of trained and committed educators into the system, further strengthening the foundation of elementary education in the islands.
