Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Nandini Maharaj, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, in association with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Kendriya Sadan, Sri Vijaya Puram, conducted a one-day cyber security training programme for government officials today. The initiative aimed to enhance awareness and preparedness against growing cyber threats targeting government data and systems.
The training was inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner and Nodal Officer (IT), North & Middle Andaman, S. Krishna Chaitanya, who highlighted the critical importance of cyber security in today’s digital landscape. He emphasized that all government officials should be equipped to secure sensitive data and protect information from cyber threats, viruses, and potential attacks. He further stressed that such training is essential to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of official data across departments.
Resource persons for the programme included Sendil Kumar, Joint Director (IT), NIC, Sri Vijaya Puram, and Devashish Kumar Das, Deputy Director (IT), NIC, Sri Vijaya Puram. They conducted sessions on recognizing potential cyber threats and implementing strategies to safeguard oneself and organizational systems from malicious attacks. Key topics covered included identifying phishing attempts, creating strong passwords, practicing safe online behavior, and understanding how artificial intelligence could be misused by cyber criminals for sophisticated attacks such as deep fakes and automated phishing campaigns.
The training witnessed participation from around 50 government officials from various departments across North and Middle Andaman. Officials actively engaged in discussions, raising queries about practical steps to mitigate cyber risks and sharing experiences related to cyber security challenges in their respective departments. Participants expressed appreciation for the comprehensive content and relevance of the programme, noting that the training provided actionable knowledge to enhance their digital safety measures.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Babita Devi, Assistant Manager (IT), Office of the Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman. She lauded the efforts of the NIC resource persons and officials involved in organizing the programme and emphasized the importance of continued cyber security awareness initiatives for government personnel.
