The Andaman and Nicobar Traffic Police intensified its road safety and enforcement efforts during April 2025, booking a total of 2,592 vehicles for a range of violations. These included 127 cases of drunk driving, 109 instances of riding without helmets, 29 violations related to illegal tinted films, and 9 cases involving unauthorized modifications to vehicles.
This surge in enforcement reflects the administration’s continued focus on traffic discipline and public safety. Officials reiterated that each challan issued during the month was aimed at not just penalizing offenders but also reinforcing the importance of responsible driving behavior.
In addition to its enforcement drive, the Traffic Police extended its reach to educational institutions by conducting 14 Road Safety Awareness Classes. More than 1,500 students and faculty members participated in these sessions. The classes covered essential aspects of road safety such as understanding traffic signs, the importance of helmet use, pedestrian rules, and the dangers associated with rash and drunk driving.
The department is also calling on citizens to actively participate in curbing traffic violations by reporting incidents such as helmetless riding, mobile phone usage while driving, and rash or negligent driving. Reports can be submitted through photographs or short videos that clearly show the registration number, date, time, and location of the offence via WhatsApp at 9531892228 or the Traffic Control Room at 03192-243812.
This initiative is part of a broader campaign aimed at instilling a culture of safe and responsible driving in the islands, where increasing traffic density and violations have made enforcement and awareness critical components of road safety.
