CPI(M) to Review Island Political Climate at Key Meet in Andaman on July 12

Sri Vijaya Puram: The State Secretariat and Organising Committee meetings of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be held on Saturday, July 12, at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, the party announced on Thursday. The meetings are set to focus on the prevailing political and social conditions in the islands.

K. Balakrishnan, former MLA from Tamil Nadu and a Polit Bureau Member of CPI(M), will be attending the meetings. The sessions are expected to bring together district and block-level office bearers of the party to discuss ongoing organisational strategies and the impact of national-level policies on island communities.

The organising committee confirmed that D. Ayyappan, Secretary of the State Organising Committee, will present the political and organisational report during the meeting. The report is expected to assess grassroots-level feedback and address island-specific challenges that have emerged in recent years.

The CPI(M) has maintained a limited but consistent political presence in the islands, regularly raising issues related to tribal rights, labour conditions, and public sector employment. Senior CPI(M) leaders from the mainland are also expected to take stock of local party functioning and assess readiness for future electoral activity in the territory. The gathering marks one of the most significant party meetings held in the islands this year by any national political formation.
