The Tourism Department of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, is set to host “Beach Volleyball-2025” under the banner #VolleyTheVibe on July 26 and 27 at Corbyn’s Cove Beach. The event aims to showcase the pristine beach as not just a scenic tourist spot but also a vibrant arena for eco-friendly, adventure-based, and monsoon tourism.
Positioned as a cultural-sporting initiative, the tournament is expected to draw both local and visiting participants and spectators. The administration’s broader objective is to promote the islands as a year-round travel destination, even during the monsoon season, by leveraging beach sports and experiential tourism.
The knockout-format tournament is open to both men’s and women’s teams. The champions will receive a cash prize of ₹7,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹5,000 and a trophy. Interested teams can register between July 22 and 24 through designated Tourism Department staff.
The event’s branding, #VolleyTheVibe, is part of a new push by the department to make Andaman’s beaches more active and engaging. With rain-washed sands, misty mornings, and mild sea breezes expected during the event, organizers believe that the monsoon provides a unique setting for both sports and photography. The initiative is expected to appeal to a new wave of tourists seeking immersive and offbeat experiences.
Corbyn’s Cove, one of the most frequented beaches on South Andaman Island, has been increasingly used as a venue for festivals and recreational events that blend sport, music, and culture. This volleyball event marks another milestone in the Tourism Department’s strategy to diversify visitor experiences beyond traditional sightseeing.
Registrations are being handled by Chander Rao (HK Assistant Manager), Siva Prasad (Receptionist), and Emlus Lakra (Receptionist), with mobile numbers publicly provided for team inquiries and sign-ups. Teams are expected to follow all standard sporting and conduct regulations during the tournament.
Besides the matches, the Tourism Department is likely to include food stalls, as is customary during such events. These supplementary attractions serve the dual purpose of encouraging local entrepreneurship and providing an enriched beachside experience for attendees.
This initiative also dovetails with the broader policy goals of encouraging community participation in tourism. By hosting events that involve local athletes, volunteers, and entrepreneurs, the department aims to ensure that the tourism economy has localized benefits while building a positive identity for the islands during the off-season.
The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs has been actively partnering with various departments to scale up sporting infrastructure and competitive engagement across the islands. Events like Beach Volleyball 2025 serve both as scouting grounds for local talent and as public engagement platforms that make sport more visible and aspirational.
Though the event is expected to proceed as scheduled, however, officials are confident that the monsoon season will lend an atmospheric charm to the experience rather than hamper it.
Beach sports have become an integral part of tropical tourism branding worldwide, and this initiative marks Andaman’s efforts to position itself within that trend. If successful, the event may become an annual fixture, possibly expanding into other disciplines like beach kabaddi or ultimate frisbee in future editions.
