Congress Losses Due to Leadership, Not EVMs: BJP’s Hussain

The BJP on Saturday said that the Congress party’s repeated electoral defeats stem from poor leadership and flawed policies rather than issues such as electronic voting machines or electoral processes, as internal dissent within the opposition party becomes increasingly visible.

BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, reacting to recent political developments, said voices of dissent are now emerging from within the Congress as its leaders confront the reasons behind successive setbacks in elections across the country. He maintained that Congress leaders themselves are beginning to acknowledge that electoral defeats are linked to leadership shortcomings and policy failures.

Hussain argued that the Congress is facing a leadership vacuum and ideological uncertainty, which has weakened its ability to present itself as a credible alternative to voters. According to him, the absence of a clear policy direction and effective leadership has contributed to the party’s declining electoral fortunes.

Referring to recent election outcomes, the BJP spokesperson pointed to Congress drawing a blank in Delhi, winning only six seats in Bihar, and suffering losses in Maharashtra and Haryana. He said these results have had a demoralising impact on party workers, leading to growing dissatisfaction within the organisation and questions being raised internally about the party’s future direction.

Hussain further alleged that instead of engaging in introspection, the Congress leadership continues to attribute its losses to external factors, a trend he said has eroded public confidence in the party. He claimed that inconsistent positions on national issues and the lack of a clear governance vision have distanced voters from the Congress over time.

The BJP leader also commented on recent remarks made by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, who was in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for a programme marking the anniversary of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s iconic poem Sagar Pran Talamala. Hussain endorsed Bhagwat’s emphasis on patriotism, stating that national progress is not possible without a strong sense of commitment to the country.

Bhagwat, speaking at the event in the Islands, underlined that the nation must always be placed above all else. He said the present time calls for living and working for India, rather than dying for it, stressing that patriotism should be reflected through everyday conduct and constructive contribution to nation-building.

The remarks from both BJP leaders come at a time when political discourse has intensified following recent election results and debates over opposition unity. With Andaman and Nicobar Islands hosting the event where Bhagwat delivered his address, the Union Territory has also emerged as a backdrop to broader national political messaging centred on patriotism and governance.
