Code of ethics

The Wave Andaman is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical journalism and responsible digital publishing. We voluntarily adhere to the Code of Ethics laid out by the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA). These guiding principles reinforce our dedication to editorial independence, accuracy, fairness, and transparency in all our content.

We believe in the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression as guaranteed by Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution of India, and we continuously review any developments that could potentially restrict the free flow of information in the public interest.

Our core principles:

  • Editorial independence: We maintain full editorial autonomy and do not permit interference in our journalistic judgment or operations.
  • Accuracy, fairness, and transparency: Every report undergoes rigorous verification before publication. We strive to avoid publishing misleading, distorted, or defamatory content.
  • Right of reply: We provide individuals and parties the opportunity to present their version when allegations are made, and update reports when new information becomes available.
  • Corrections and takedowns: If any content is found to be inaccurate or misleading, we promptly correct, update, or remove it upon verification of the concern raised by the affected party.
  • Respect for intellectual property: We uphold copyright and intellectual property rights in all content, and seek appropriate permissions where necessary.
  • Sensitive reporting: We exercise extreme caution while covering topics involving crime, sexual offences, child abuse, domestic violence, and communal issues. Reporting is guided by facts and respect for privacy, especially of minors and victims.
  • Judicial matters: Reports concerning court cases or judicial proceedings are handled with accuracy, legal awareness, and without prejudice. Both sides are fairly represented, without speculative commentary.
  • Privacy: We respect the privacy of individuals, especially those not in public life, and avoid publishing information that can lead to identification of victims or minors.

Legal compliance:

We strictly comply with all applicable laws of India, including but not limited to the Constitution of India, the Indian Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, the Information Technology Act, 2000, and media-specific legislations.

Grievance redressal:

As a responsible digital news publisher, The Wave Andaman adheres to the grievance redressal mechanism outlined under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules, 2011.

We have appointed a designated Grievance Officer, who can be contacted at: Email: editor@thewaveandaman.com. Please include a clear subject line and relevant details in your complaint. We are committed to acknowledging grievances within 36 hours and aim to resolve them within one month.

Training and awareness:

We conduct regular training and sensitization programs for our editorial teams on laws governing media, journalistic ethics, reporting on sensitive issues, and legal responsibilities. Our aim is to promote accuracy, sensitivity, and fairness in all journalistic practices.
