Sri Vijaya Puram, May 6:
The Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Paramesh Sivamani, visited the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and held a high-level meeting with Admiral DK Joshi (Retd.), Lieutenant Governor and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency.
Held at Raj Niwas, the meeting focused on strengthening coastal security, infrastructure expansion, and force enhancement across the region’s vast maritime territory. Discussions included long-term infrastructure perspective plans and integration of security protocols across the archipelago.
As the strategic importance of the A&N Islands continues to grow due to their proximity to key international sea lanes, bolstering maritime surveillance and rapid response capability has been a recurring priority. The meeting reaffirmed inter-agency cooperation between the Coast Guard and the A&N Administration.
The Indian Coast Guard has maintained a permanent regional command in the islands, tasked with maritime law enforcement, pollution control, and rescue operations. The recent review follows increasing maritime activity and the need to upgrade surveillance assets, including vessels, aircraft, and radar systems.
Officials stated that such engagements are critical for aligning national security imperatives with regional governance, especially under the purview of the Islands Development Agency, which plays a central role in A&N’s infrastructure roadmap.
No specific outcomes or public statements were made following the meeting, but sources confirmed that follow-up reviews and assessments are likely to be conducted in the coming months.
