South Andaman Honours Meritorious Child Care Students for Board Exam Success

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 30: The District Administration of South Andaman celebrated the academic achievements of children from Child Care Institutions who excelled in the Class 10 and 12 board examinations for the 2024–25 academic year. A special felicitation ceremony was held on May 29 at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Deputy Commissioner Arjun Sharma, who also serves as Chairman of the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), honoured 21 meritorious students with tokens of appreciation in recognition of their efforts and success. The children, who belong to various institutional care homes across the district, were acknowledged not just for their grades but for the resilience and determination they demonstrated.

Among the high achievers were Gulam Rasool, who scored 89%, Barsha Das with 78.2%, and R. Nivedha at 77.8%. Their results, officials said, are a testament to the supportive environment fostered within Child Care Institutions that has helped these students pursue academic excellence against the odds.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated all the students and emphasized the transformative power of education. He encouraged them to keep striving for excellence and make their loved ones proud, reminding them that such accomplishments set an example for others and inspire hope in the community.

He also commended the dedication of the caregivers, mentors, and DCPU staff for their role in guiding and nurturing the children. “Hard work always pays off,” he remarked, underscoring the importance of continued effort, discipline, and motivation in achieving one’s goals.

The event concluded with a touching vote of thanks by Gulam Rasool, who spoke on behalf of all the students. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the administration, teachers, and caregivers who played a significant role in their academic journeys.

The felicitation not only highlighted individual academic achievements but also reinforced the importance of institutional support, community encouragement, and holistic development for children in care. The DCPU’s initiative stands as a model for how public institutions can empower vulnerable children through recognition and encouragement.
