Sri Vijaya Puram, April 16: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) will conduct a special Circuit Sitting at Sri Vijaya Puram from April 28 to May 2, 2025, providing a vital opportunity for island-based litigants and government departments to resolve service-related cases without traveling to the mainland.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Registrar of CAT’s Kolkata Bench. The session will include hearings of pending service matters and will also accept fresh applications during this window.
Government departments involved in CAT cases have been instructed to coordinate with their legal representatives well in advance. Departments are expected to provide complete case files to Government Pleaders or Panel Advocates and ensure that their cases are presented comprehensively and efficiently.
Heads of Departments (HoDs) have also been requested to assign Nodal Officers to be physically present on the hearing dates, equipped with relevant documents to support the government’s case.
“This local sitting significantly reduces logistical hassles and ensures timely access to justice for government employees residing in remote regions like A&N Islands,” said an official from the Legal Coordination Cell.
Such sittings by CAT are aimed at decentralizing administrative justice and enhancing outreach in far-flung union territories.
