Poll Schedule Out For Panchayat, Zilla Parishad Vacancies

Bye-elections have been scheduled for February 8, 2026, to fill casual vacancies in various local self-government bodies across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Election Commission for Union Territories has announced the poll for vacant seats in Gram Panchayats, the Zilla Parishad and the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, covering multiple rural and urban constituencies.

According to the notification, the bye-elections will be conducted to fill vacancies in the Gram Panchayat Member constituencies of Madhupur-6 under Diglipur Tehsil, Bakultala-3 under Rangat Tehsil, Mannarghat-4, and Bambooflat-1 under Ferrargunj Tehsil. In addition, a vacancy in the Zilla Parishad Member constituency of Mayabunder in North and Middle Andaman will also be filled through the poll.

The bye-election will further cover the Ward Councillor seat of Ward No. 17 of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council. The ward has been divided into multiple polling segments to facilitate voting across different localities within the municipal area.

Polling will take place at designated stations notified by the election authorities. In Madhupur, voting will be held at Government Primary School, Madhupur-II. For the Zilla Parishad constituency of Mayabunder, multiple polling stations have been notified, including government offices, primary schools, veterinary offices, anganwadi centres and community facilities spread across Mayabunder, Pokadera, Danapur, Webi, Karmatang, Lucknow and Rampur.

For Bakultala-3 Gram Panchayat constituency, polling will be conducted at Government Senior Secondary School, Bakultala, while the Mannarghat-4 constituency will vote at the Range Office, Mannarghat. In Hope Town Gram Panchayat under Ferrargunj Tehsil, the polling station for Bambooflat-1 constituency will be located at the Junior Engineer Office, Electricity Department, Bambooflat.

In Ward No. 17 of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, polling will be conducted across several locations, including government middle schools in Dollygunj, community halls in Srinagar and Minnie Bay, and Dr B R Ambedkar Institute of Technology at Pahargaon. These arrangements have been made to ensure accessibility for voters across different segments of the ward.

Election authorities have stated that the details of polling stations have been published for the information of all concerned. Voters in the respective constituencies have been advised to verify their polling locations in advance and participate in the democratic process on the scheduled date.

The bye-elections are being conducted to fill casual vacancies arising in local bodies, ensuring continuity in grassroots governance and representation. Local self-government institutions play a key role in administration and development at the village, block and municipal levels in the Islands.

With the polling date fixed, the election machinery is expected to initiate necessary arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the bye-elections, including deployment of personnel, security measures and voter facilitation across the notified constituencies.
