Sri Vijaya Puram: A wave of wonder is set to wash over Corbyn’s Cove Road this weekend as the Science Centre at Goodwill Estate gears up to host its much-loved Bubble Show on July 19. The program, designed to blend entertainment with science-based curiosity, promises to deliver a spectacle of soap, light, and motion, from tiny shimmers to towering bubble walls.
Scheduled to begin at 6:10 pm and wrap up by 6:45 pm, the Bubble Show is a family-friendly experience crafted to engage both children and adults in the whimsical yet educational world of surface tension, air pressure, and creative play. Priced at Rs. 10 per head, the event is expected to draw local families and visiting tourists alike.
This year’s edition promises an even more colourful line-up of bubble artistry, with the demonstrator preparing a series of fascinating formations, from the always-popular Doraemon bubble to intricate caterpillar bubbles, cubic bubbles, and even the thrilling fire bubble. Each creation is built to surprise and delight, with an underlying aim to trigger questions and spark conversations about how such delicate structures are even possible.
The Bubble Show has become a recurring favourite among Science Centre programs, especially during school breaks and holiday weekends, where footfalls typically spike. With its mix of humour, hands-on spectacle, and simple scientific explanation, the event has proven to be a strong crowd-puller without straying from its educational roots.
In addition to the bubble spectacle, the Science Centre will also offer a Special 3D Show at two intervals, 5:30 pm and again at 6:10 pm, for which the entry fee has been set at Rs. 20 per person. The 3D show provides an immersive, visual journey through various scientific concepts, making it an ideal prelude or follow-up to the main bubble attraction.
The combination of both events creates a full evening package for families looking to engage their children with science outside the classroom. Past attendees of the show have often praised the event for balancing fun with learning, making scientific concepts more relatable and less intimidating for younger audiences.
Strategically located near Corbyn’s Cove, a popular recreational area for both locals and tourists, the Science Centre has steadily grown into a preferred weekend destination for educational outings. With a regular schedule of rotating exhibits, interactive experiments, and themed shows, it has carved a niche for itself in promoting public understanding of science in an approachable and playful manner.
Though compact in scale compared to metro-based science museums, the Centre’s programming often makes the most of local interest and seasonal timing. Events like the Bubble Show are planned to coincide with weekends or school vacation periods, maximising reach and engagement.
For this weekend’s show, the Centre is expecting a healthy turnout. Tickets will be available at the venue on the day of the event, and visitors are encouraged to arrive early due to limited seating and the typically high demand for special shows.
The Science Centre’s ongoing programming continues to align with broader goals of informal science education, where learning is not bound to textbooks or labs but opens up in everyday encounters, with bubbles, for instance, becoming gateways to physics, chemistry, and creative exploration.
As the countdown begins, anticipation is building not just among children but also among adults who quietly admit they’re just as fascinated. Because in the right light and the right moment, a soap bubble can hold more than air, it can hold awe.
