The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands announced the appointment of five Morcha presidents following the approval of the party’s national leadership. The decision was formally made at the state committee meeting held at Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Bhawan, Middle Point, Port Blair, on September 16 under the chairmanship of state president Anil Kumar Tiwari.
According to the announcement, the Mahila Morcha will now be led by Chaitali Roy, the Yuva Morcha by P. Yogesh, the Minority Morcha by Baby Mathew, the OBC Morcha by Rajesh Lall, and the Kisan Morcha by Vardarajan. These appointments were introduced by state secretary Nagalaxmi in the presence of office bearers and formally ratified after approval from national president J.P. Nadda, national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh, and national BJP prabhari for the islands Raghunath Kulkarni.
Before the announcement of the Morcha presidents, Tiwari presented a performance report of his 75 days in office. He stated that since assuming charge, he had toured extensively across the islands, covering areas from Diglipur in the north to Campbell Bay in the south. During this period, he said, the party had engaged with several local issues and taken them up with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, including the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary.
Among the issues highlighted were interruptions in power supply in South Andaman, restarting quarry operations in Hut Bay, and securing land allotment for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Campbell Bay. The state unit also raised concerns regarding the need to reconsider the Resident Certificate for concessions in ship tickets for Campbell Bay residents. Matters relating to real estate and revenue administration were also taken up. According to Tiwari, several of these concerns have already been resolved while others are in the final stages of approval.
The announcement of the five Morcha presidents marks the latest organisational development for the BJP in the islands, which has been working to strengthen its grassroots presence. Each Morcha is expected to play a specific role in mobilising communities and representing their interests within the broader framework of the party. The Mahila Morcha is tasked with women’s issues and political participation, the Yuva Morcha focuses on youth engagement, the Minority Morcha addresses minority community concerns, the OBC Morcha mobilises other backward classes, and the Kisan Morcha focuses on farmers’ issues.
Party functionaries described the appointments as part of an effort to expand outreach across diverse social groups in the Union Territory. The inclusion of these Morcha leaders also signals the intent to balance representation among different communities and address localised concerns through structured party wings.
The BJP state unit’s organisational activities have been expanding over the last few months, particularly since the new leadership took charge. With multiple visits and local meetings, the party has sought to build closer contact with residents across the islands. The announcement of Morcha presidents is expected to further consolidate this outreach and strengthen coordination between the state unit and national leadership.
The state committee meeting concluded with the reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to pursue unresolved issues with the administration and to maintain regular engagement with local communities. The leadership expressed confidence that the Morcha presidents would provide momentum to political activities in their respective domains.
The appointments come at a time when the political landscape of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is gradually gearing up for heightened activity, with parties positioning themselves to expand influence and consolidate support bases across the region. For the BJP, the announcement of these new Morcha presidents underlines its strategy of reinforcing organisational structure and engaging systematically with women, youth, minorities, OBCs, and farmers.
