Sri Vijaya Puram, May 11: Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray on 09 May inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple rural road development projects under the Mannarghat Sub Division of the Roads Construction Division (RCD), APWD, Wimberlygunj, aimed at improving connectivity and transportation infrastructure in South Andaman. Kanyapuram Gram Panchayat Pradhan Basheer was also present during the inauguration programme.
The projects, launched across several wards under the Mannarghat Sub Division, focus on upgrading blacktop roads and strengthening rural access routes used by residents on a daily basis. The combined works involve road improvement and renovation initiatives valued at over ₹1.35 crore under various infrastructure schemes.
Among the projects inaugurated was the improvement of the rural road stretch from Markaz School to the residence of P.K. Mohammed Ali at Ward No. KP-04 and KP-05. The work has been awarded at an agreement amount of ₹34,49,059 against an estimated tender cost of ₹33,38,876 under the Mannarghat Sub Division of RCD, APWD, Wimberlygunj.
Another project launched includes the renovation of the blacktop road from Hameed Crusher to the residence of M. Kasim covering Ward No. WG-03 and WG-04. The project carries an agreement amount of ₹32,92,352, while the estimated tender value stands at ₹31,87,175.
In addition, foundation stone laying was carried out for the improvement of the blacktop road from Water Tank to Jazeera Masjid at Ward No. KP-04 under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). The project has been sanctioned at an agreement amount of ₹68,58,560 against an estimated tender cost of ₹66,39,458.
The road infrastructure projects are expected to improve transportation access for residents in the concerned wards and strengthen rural connectivity in the region. The works are being implemented under the Mannarghat Sub Division of APWD’s Roads Construction Division, Wimberlygunj.
Local residents welcomed the development and expressed hope that the projects would ease commuting difficulties and improve movement across the affected areas. The initiatives are also expected to support smoother transportation for local communities dependent on these roads for daily travel and access to public facilities.
The inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony formed part of ongoing infrastructure development efforts in South Andaman aimed at improving public road networks in rural and semi-rural areas.
