Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged the Administration to take immediate steps to strengthen the newly created Electricity Site Office at Beadnabad. The office, recently set up in space provided by the Gram Panchayat, was intended to reduce the workload of the existing Birdline Electricity Site Office and ensure better service for local residents.
However, the MP expressed concern that the Beadnabad office currently lacks essential resources. It does not have field staff, a supervisory officer, a vehicle, or necessary machinery, and is functioning primarily as a complaint-receiving centre. Meanwhile, the Birdline Site Office, with only one vehicle and limited staff, continues to manage a vast jurisdiction covering Ward No. 23, Gram Panchayat Calicut, Birdline, Makhapahad, Burmanallah, and Chidiyatapu. Complaints from far-flung areas often remain unattended for hours, causing inconvenience to the public.
During his visit to Ward No. 23, Birdline, on 21st September 2025, accompanied by the Chairman and Secretary of the Municipal Council, Ray personally received several complaints from local residents regarding these challenges. Taking serious note, the MP has suggested immediate measures to improve the Beadnabad office. These include provision of a supervisory officer with sufficient staff, allotment of machinery and a vehicle to attend public complaints promptly, and clear bifurcation of jurisdiction between the Birdline and Beadnabad offices to ensure effective service delivery.
Bishnu Pada Ray emphasized that uninterrupted electricity supply is a basic necessity of life. Strengthening the Beadnabad Site Office, he noted, will help streamline operations, reduce the overburden on Birdline, and provide timely service to residents across the area.
