Wandoor Beach Gears Up for Two-Day Festival of Sports, Fitness and Fun

The Directorate of Tourism, in collaboration with the Departments of Education and Sports & Youth Affairs, is set to transform the serene Wandoor Beach into a vibrant sports arena with the two-day Beach Sports Festival 2025, beginning on October 24. Designed to celebrate sportsmanship, fitness, and community spirit, the event aims to blend recreation with tourism against the stunning backdrop of Wandoor’s golden sands and spectacular sunsets.

Scheduled for October 24 and 25, the festival promises a dynamic line-up of beachside competitions that encourage teamwork and healthy living while drawing locals and tourists alike to one of the most picturesque coastal stretches in the Andaman Islands. The opening day will feature preliminary rounds of Volleyball and Tug of War in both men’s and women’s categories. These will set the stage for the final matches and other competitions, including Arm Wrestling and a 100-meter Sprint, to be held on the concluding day.

Matches are set to begin at 10 a.m., with participants advised to report by 9 a.m. On-the-spot registrations will remain open until the start of the games, ensuring inclusivity and spontaneous participation from enthusiasts who wish to join. The Directorate has announced that cash prizes will be awarded to winners and runners-up during the closing ceremony on October 25, recognizing outstanding performances and fostering a spirit of friendly competition.

Beyond the contests, the festival aims to reinforce the islands’ growing identity as a sports and wellness destination. Tourism officials emphasized that events like these not only nurture physical well-being but also strengthen community ties and promote tourism in natural settings. Wandoor, known for its pristine shoreline and coral-rich waters, provides an ideal backdrop for combining fitness with fun, showcasing the Andaman Islands as a space where adventure meets leisure.

The initiative is part of the broader strategy by the Administration to diversify tourism experiences beyond conventional sightseeing. By promoting sports-based tourism, authorities hope to encourage outdoor activities that engage local communities while offering visitors immersive experiences that highlight the islands’ scenic beauty and ecological richness.

Local athletes, students, and residents have shown keen interest in the festival, viewing it as an opportunity to celebrate teamwork, resilience, and island pride. The Directorate of Tourism has extended invitations to all sports lovers, tourists, and community members to attend and participate, ensuring the festival becomes a collective celebration rather than a mere competition. Organizers have made arrangements for essential facilities, including safety measures, refreshment stalls, and shaded resting areas, to ensure a comfortable experience for participants and spectators.

Officials noted that the Beach Sports Festival complements the Administration’s larger efforts to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism models that benefit the local economy while preserving the environment. Events like this encourage youth participation, create awareness about active living, and position the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a destination for year-round activities beyond the traditional tourist season.

As anticipation builds, the Wandoor Beach shoreline is expected to echo with cheers, laughter, and the sound of friendly rivalry over the next two days. The festival not only celebrates athleticism but also the unique island spirit,  a blend of unity, adventure, and natural charm that continues to define life in the Andamans.
