AYUSH Poshan Mela and Tailoring Training Launched to Promote Health and Skills

The AYUSH Wing of the Directorate of Health Services, in collaboration with the Andaman and Nicobar Self Help Association (ANSAS), will host an ‘AYUSH Poshan Mela’ on October 11, 2025, at the AYUSH premises, starting from 10 AM. The event marks the valedictory celebration of Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2025 and seeks to raise awareness on holistic nutrition while promoting AYUSH-based dietary practices to support overall health and well-being.

The mela will feature an exhibition on AYUSH Poshan, displaying traditional and region-specific nutritious foods, medicinal plants, and dietary principles rooted in Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy systems. A ‘Recipe Competition’ for Self Help Groups (SHGs) will also be conducted, encouraging participants to prepare healthy, locally sourced, and seasonal dishes aligned with sustainable and nutritious diet practices.

Additionally, a specialized health screening camp will be organized for ASHA workers and the general public. The camp will focus on preventive health measures, nutrition assessment, lifestyle awareness, and reproductive health, reinforcing the importance of holistic well-being.

In a related development, a 10-day Tailoring and Embroidery Training Programme under DAY-NRLM and CD Block Diglipur, in collaboration with the Industries Department, commenced in Diglipur today. The programme aims to empower rural women by equipping them with practical skills in tailoring and embroidery, thereby enhancing their economic prospects.

During the inauguration, the Block Development Officer of Diglipur highlighted that such capacity-building initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening the economic and social fabric of rural communities. The Industries Promotion Officer provided participants with a detailed overview of the 10-day training schedule. Training kits were distributed to all 30 participants, who are members of various SHGs across Diglipur.

The training, which will continue until October 21, is designed to provide hands-on experience and exposure to modern techniques in tailoring and embroidery. Participants are expected to gain skills that will enable them to contribute meaningfully to their household income and participate actively in local economic development.

Both initiatives reflect a continued focus on community development and well-being in the islands. The AYUSH Poshan Mela emphasizes preventive health and nutritional literacy, while the tailoring programme underscores economic empowerment and skill development for women. Through such programs, the administration seeks to integrate health awareness with sustainable livelihood opportunities, ensuring a holistic approach to community welfare and development in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

These events highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen health, nutrition, and vocational skills among residents, particularly targeting women and grassroots workers, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive development across the islands.
