Sri Vijaya Puram, April 25: A group of trainee nurses from the ANM Training School in Sri Vijaya Puram took a practical step towards community health awareness on Friday by organizing a Nutrition Demonstration Program at the Health & Wellness Centre (HWC) in Haddo. The event focused on promoting nutritional awareness among pregnant and lactating mothers and highlighted the importance of a balanced diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from the community and local leaders. Someshwar Rao, Councilor of Ward No. 2 in Haddo, attended the event as the chief guest, while Dr. Rashida Banu, Medical Officer at HWC Haddo, was the guest of honor.
In his brief health talk, Councilor Rao emphasized the importance of a balanced diet for maternal health and offered simple dietary tips to reduce anemia, one of the most common nutritional issues faced by expecting mothers in the region. Dr. Banu, in her address, spoke about prevalent pregnancy-related nutritional challenges and appreciated the efforts of the nursing students for organizing a practical and meaningful community outreach program.
A key highlight of the event was a live food exhibition set up by the ANM students. The display featured easy-to-prepare, nutritious, and cost-effective recipes made using locally sourced ingredients. Each dish was explained by the students to visitors, including the chief guest, several pregnant women, and patients at the health center.
The initiative received positive feedback from both the attendees and the medical staff, with many noting that the recipes were both affordable and culturally familiar, making them more likely to be adopted by local families.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Bincy V. Kuruvilla, Principal of the ANM Training School, who assured the audience that similar initiatives will be conducted regularly to benefit the community. The program was coordinated by Kalawati Dutta, Nursing Tutor at the training school.
By engaging directly with pregnant women and offering hands-on demonstrations, the program served as a strong reminder that community-led health education can be both impactful and sustainable, especially when focused on practical solutions rooted in local traditions.
