ANIIMS Announces Third Round For MD, MS And DND Seats

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences has announced the third round of counselling for admission to MD, MS and Post MBBS DNB courses under the in-service quota for the academic year 2025-26. The counselling is scheduled to be held on February 7, 2026, at the Administrative Block of the ANIIMS New Campus at Corbyn’s Cove, with the process aimed at filling leftover vacant seats in select specialities.

Eligible candidates are required to be Indian citizens who have completed their MBBS course, including the compulsory rotatory medical internship, and have qualified in NEET PG 2025. Eligibility will be determined in accordance with the latest criteria notified by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences on January 13, 2026. As per the notification, candidates from the General and EWS categories must meet the prescribed percentile, while candidates from SC, ST, OBC and PwD categories are eligible as per the revised qualifying standards.

For candidates opting for MD and MS seats under the state quota, a mandatory service obligation has been stipulated. Such candidates will be required to serve in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for a minimum period of one year and must furnish an undertaking to this effect on non-judicial stamp paper. Failure to comply with the service requirement would attract a financial penalty as specified in the counselling notification.

In the case of Post MBBS DNB seats filled through the in-service quota, candidates will be required to serve the Andaman and Nicobar Administration for a minimum period of ten years upon completion of the course. The administration has stated that the service condition is intended to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Islands by ensuring the availability of trained specialists over the long term.

Vacant MD and MS seats are available in subjects including Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Ophthalmology, while one Post MBBS DNB seat remains vacant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The duration of the MD, MS and Post MBBS DNB broad specialty courses is three years. The upper age limit for applying for DNB courses under the in-service quota has been fixed at 50 years.

Candidates interested in applying for the vacant seats have been advised to refer to the detailed counselling schedule, eligibility criteria and application procedure available on the official ANIIMS website https://andssw1.and.nic.in/aniims . The institute has also advised candidates to regularly check the website for updates related to the counselling process.

As per the instructions issued, candidates must report for counselling at 9 am on the scheduled date with all original certificates and documents, along with two sets of self-attested photocopies. The allotment of seats and verification of documents will be carried out only if the candidate attends the counselling session in person.

Seat allotment will be conducted strictly in order of merit, with candidates being offered seats based on availability at the time of counselling. Officials have emphasised that no allotment will be made in the absence of personal appearance by the candidate.

The third round of counselling is expected to conclude on the same day, following which further steps will be taken based on the outcome of the allotment process. The administration has indicated that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to optimise utilisation of postgraduate medical seats and strengthen the healthcare workforce in the Islands.
