The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation (ANIIDCO) has launched a new fellowship and internship initiative aimed at strengthening professional capacity and supporting sustainable development planning across the islands.
The newly introduced ANIIDCO Island Development Fellowship Programme and Internship Programme are designed to bring young professionals and students into the island development process by providing them with opportunities to contribute technical, analytical and creative inputs to ongoing projects.
Officials said the programmes are being introduced at a time when ANIIDCO is implementing a range of initiatives across sectors such as eco-tourism, infrastructure development, marine and coastal planning, environmental sustainability and urban development. The initiative is expected to support these projects by engaging individuals with relevant academic and professional backgrounds.
Under the fellowship programme, four qualified professionals will be selected to work with the corporation for a period of nine months. The tenure may be extended up to twelve months depending on project requirements and performance.
In parallel, the internship programme will provide short-term exposure to ten students and recent graduates from relevant disciplines. Authorities said the internship is intended to give participants an opportunity to gain practical experience in areas related to island development while contributing to specific assignments or projects.
Officials emphasised that both programmes are structured as non-employment engagements focused on achieving defined outcomes. Participants will work on targeted assignments that are expected to generate useful insights, documentation and knowledge resources for development planning in the islands.
The initiative is also expected to encourage innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. By involving young professionals and students with diverse academic backgrounds, the corporation aims to introduce new ideas and approaches that are suited to the unique ecological and geographical conditions of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Authorities said the programmes will place a strong emphasis on field-based research, documentation and knowledge creation. Participants may be required to study local conditions, analyse existing infrastructure or environmental challenges, and prepare structured reports or recommendations that could inform future policy and planning decisions.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands present a distinct development context due to their fragile ecosystems, dispersed geography and unique biodiversity. Officials noted that development initiatives in the region must therefore balance economic growth with environmental conservation.
By engaging fellows and interns in real-world projects, the corporation expects to build a knowledge-driven approach to development planning that is sensitive to these ecological considerations. The programme is also expected to contribute to the creation of an institutional knowledge base that can support long-term development strategies for the islands.

Another objective of the initiative is to create a future-ready talent pool with expertise in island development issues. Authorities believe that encouraging young professionals to work on projects in the islands could help build a network of individuals familiar with the region’s development challenges and opportunities.
The corporation has made available detailed information regarding the fellowship and internship programmes through official notifications and online application platforms. Interested candidates can access the application format and programme details through the vacancy section of the administration’s official websites.
Applications can be submitted through the designated online form provided by the authorities. Officials said the online system has been introduced to streamline the application process and make it accessible to interested candidates from across the country.
The launch of the fellowship and internship programmes reflects a broader effort to integrate professional expertise and academic perspectives into development initiatives in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Authorities indicated that the initiative will help generate high-quality outputs while also promoting innovative approaches to sustainable island development.
