ANIBOCWWB Holds Special Camps to Register Construction Workers in Andaman and Nicobar

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (ANIBOCWWB) organized three special awareness camps to enroll left-out eligible workers as beneficiary workmen under the Board.

The camps targeted Daily Rated Mazdoor workers engaged in sweeping and allied road maintenance in Wards 4 and 5 of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council, as well as outsourced workers performing maintenance at the Haddo jetty, Ward 1, under the Port Management Board. The initiative aimed to educate workers about registration with ANIBOCWWB and enable them to access benefits under the Board’s welfare schemes.

Officials said the awareness programmes saw participation from 146 workers, all of whom received registration forms and guidance on eligibility, documentation, and the benefits offered under the Board’s social security initiatives. The sessions also highlighted the importance of registration in ensuring access to healthcare, accident compensation, and other welfare measures designed for construction and allied workers.

The ANIBOCWWB emphasized its commitment to reaching all eligible construction workers across the islands, ensuring that individuals engaged in road and jetty maintenance and other construction-related activities are informed about welfare programmes. By facilitating the registration process and providing hands-on support, the Board seeks to strengthen social and economic security for workers who form a critical part of the islands’ infrastructure development.

Welfare Board officials noted that regular outreach is essential for integrating all eligible workers into the system, particularly those in informal or outsourced roles who may not be aware of existing benefits. The Board plans to continue similar awareness drives to cover additional areas and worker categories, reinforcing the objective of comprehensive welfare coverage across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The initiative reflects a focused effort by the administration to institutionalize support for the construction workforce, which often faces irregular employment, occupational hazards, and limited access to social security schemes. By combining awareness with practical enrollment assistance, ANIBOCWWB aims to ensure equitable access to welfare provisions and improve the livelihood conditions of the islands’ construction workers.
