Andaman’s Angel Aleta Wins Bronze at Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship in Srinagar

Angel Aleta represented India at the 3rd Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship, held from September 25 to 30, 2025, at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex in Srinagar. The championship saw participation from over 300 athletes across 11 countries and was organized by the Indian Sports Ministry in collaboration with the Asian Pencak Silat Federation, with support from the Jammu and Kashmir authorities.

Competing in the Tanding (Fight) category in the 39 kg to 43 kg weight class, Aleta won the bronze medal, marking a first for an athlete from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at this championship. Her performance placed her on the podium amid strong competition from young martial artists across Asia, highlighting her skill, preparation, and determination.

Aleta’s achievement was credited to the dedicated efforts of her coaches, Shihan M. S. Murugan and Logarjun of Pencak Silat Martial Arts. Their guidance and training enabled her to compete successfully at an international level, providing technical support, strategic insights, and consistent mentorship throughout the preparation and the event.

The Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship provided a platform for young athletes to compete at the continental level, testing their combat skills, speed, and technique in the Tanding format.
