Andamans Cast Tourism Spell on Southeast Asia at MATTA Fair 2025

Sri Vijay Puram, April 24: In a vibrant show of cultural pride and tourism potential, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands made a resounding mark at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) during MATTA Fair 2025, one of Southeast Asia’s most prestigious travel exhibitions. Set against the energetic backdrop of Kuala Lumpur, the islands didn’t just showcase their offerings, they captivated an international audience with their authenticity, biodiversity, and story-rich heritage.

Led by A&N Tourism Secretary Jyoti Kumari, the delegation represented India under the ASEAN-India Tourism Professionals’ Exchange Program. Among 80 high-profile delegates from the region, the Andamans stood out for their immersive storytelling, culturally rich presentations, and compelling vision of sustainable tourism. From images of pristine coral reefs and indigenous communities to stories of eco-conscious development, the Andaman stall offered more than a travel pitch, it was a narrative of a place deeply rooted in conservation, culture, and connection.

The official inauguration of the Indian pavilion by a senior Malaysian Minister lent ceremonial weight to the Andamans’ participation, underlining India’s growing synergy with ASEAN nations, especially during the ongoing ASEAN-India Year of Tourism. With evocative visuals of coastal beauty and the rhythms of island life, the pavilion drew steady footfall from curious tourists, travel professionals, and global stakeholders keen to explore new destinations in Asia’s emerging tourism landscape.

For M Vinod, President of the Andaman Nicobar Tourism Association (AATO) and part of the delegation, the event marked a turning point. Speaking after his return to Sri Vijay Puram, Vinod told The Wave Andaman that the island’s participation was not just symbolic, it was strategic. “This was more than just a presence,” he said. “It was a clear message to the world that the Andamans are not only ready to welcome global travelers but are also committed to doing so sustainably, and with soul.”

He credited the A&N Administration for its unwavering support, noting that platforms like MATTA Fair are essential for positioning the islands on the global tourism map. “Such events help us shape the future of island tourism by connecting with international markets, investors, and influencers,” he said. “They allow us to promote the Andamans as a destination that offers raw beauty, rich stories, and responsible travel experiences.”

As ASEAN nations look to deepen regional tourism exchanges, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are carving out a niche that blends natural allure with cultural depth. Their powerful showcase at MATTA Fair 2025 has not only sparked interest but also signaled a confident leap into the competitive arena of international tourism.
