The Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ tourism potential was showcased to a global audience on February 27 as the Union Territory participated in the South Asia Travel and Tourism Exchange in New Delhi, one of the region’s largest travel trade platforms. The event provided an opportunity to present the islands as a sustainable and nature-focused destination within South Asia.
During a visit to the Andaman and Nicobar pavilion at the expo, tourism officials reviewed ongoing promotional efforts aimed at expanding outreach to domestic and international markets. Interactions were held with stakeholders from the travel trade, hospitality sector and media, focusing on positioning the islands as a premium destination while maintaining ecological balance.
Held at Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention and Expo Centre in Dwarka, the three-day event brought together tour operators, travel professionals, hospitality leaders and tourism boards from across the world. The Andaman and Nicobar pavilion drew attention for its emphasis on sustainable tourism practices and experiences rooted in the islands’ natural and cultural assets.
The pavilion highlighted a range of attractions, including Blue Flag-certified beaches, marine biodiversity, geo-heritage sites and adventure-based experiences. Heritage landmarks associated with India’s freedom struggle, unique geological features such as the region’s volcanic landscapes, and opportunities for stargazing and water sports were also presented as part of the destination narrative.
Officials engaged in business-to-business meetings with tour operators, media representatives and travel influencers to explore partnerships aimed at increasing tourist footfall. These interactions focused on developing responsible tourism models that balance growth with environmental conservation, a recurring theme in discussions at the pavilion.
Promotional materials detailing island-hopping circuits, adventure tourism offerings, heritage experiences and recent initiatives in the tourism sector were distributed to visitors. The materials also reflected ongoing efforts to diversify tourism beyond conventional beach experiences by promoting lesser-known locations and thematic tourism.
Participation in SATTE was positioned as a step towards strengthening the global visibility of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. By leveraging a platform that connects destinations with international travel markets, the administration aims to attract travellers seeking nature-centric and experiential tourism within the South Asian region.
The engagement at the expo forms part of a broader strategy to align tourism development with sustainability goals, while expanding the islands’ presence in competitive travel markets.
