A press conference conducted today by the Joint Action Committee Forum addressed the ongoing student agitation in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands regarding the Government of India decision linked to the proposed shift from Pondicherry University affiliation to a deemed-to-be university framework. Speaking at the briefing, Rakesh Pal Govind stated that the protest will continue until the demand receives a clear resolution.
He said students plan to attend classes during early morning hours, and then continue with the demonstration from 2 PM to 6 PM. The schedule, he noted, reflects an effort to balance academic participation with ongoing dissent over the higher education policy issue.

Pal also indicated that legal action will follow, saying the matter will be taken to the High Court. He further stated that the issue will be raised in the next Parliamentary session, signalling an attempt to seek institutional attention.
During the interaction, he emphasised that the agitation will remain in place until a definitive decision emerges. A strike outside the college premises during the specified hours will continue as part of this approach.
The press briefing focused on concerns linked to the proposed academic restructuring and its perceived implications for students. The statements highlighted the intention to pursue both institutional remedies and public protest simultaneously.
The conference concluded with a reiteration that the issue remains unresolved, with continued demonstrations expected while legal and parliamentary avenues are explored.
