2026 Summer Vacation Schedule Announced for All Andaman & Nicobar Schools

The summer vacation schedule for schools across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the year 2026 has been officially declared, bringing clarity to students, parents and educators on the academic calendar for the coming year. The announcement applies uniformly to all government, private aided and unaided schools functioning under the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.

As per the notification, the summer vacation will commence on May 2, 2026, and continue until June 30, 2026, spanning a total of 60 days. All schools have been directed to reopen on July 1, 2026, marking the resumption of regular academic activities after the annual break. The declaration provides early visibility to institutions and families, allowing them to plan academic schedules, travel and related activities well in advance.

Alongside the vacation schedule, timelines related to examinations and the academic session have also been specified. Schools have been instructed to ensure that the results of home examinations for the academic session 2025–26 are declared positively by March 31, 2026. This deadline applies across all categories of schools, reinforcing uniformity in academic progression throughout the Union Territory.

The notification further states that the new academic session for the year 2026–27 will commence from April 1, 2026. This effectively places the conclusion of the previous academic cycle and the beginning of the next within a clearly defined framework, aimed at maintaining continuity in teaching and learning processes.

Education officials indicate that aligning examination results and the start of the academic session before the summer vacation is intended to minimise disruptions and ensure a smoother transition for students moving between classes. By completing evaluations and promotions ahead of the vacation period, schools are expected to reduce academic uncertainty and administrative backlog.

The declaration of a 60-day vacation period reflects the region’s climatic conditions, particularly the onset of summer and monsoon-related factors that often affect attendance and mobility across the islands. Longer breaks during this period have traditionally been part of the local academic structure, balancing instructional requirements with environmental realities.

Private and unaided institutions, which follow varied internal calendars, are also required to adhere to the notified dates, ensuring consistency across the education system. Officials note that such uniformity helps streamline admissions, transfers and inter-school coordination, particularly in a geographically dispersed territory like Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Parents and students have welcomed the early announcement, as it allows families to plan academic support, skill-based activities and travel during the vacation months. For schools, the notification serves as a binding administrative reference for scheduling examinations, teacher deployment and academic planning for the next session.

With the academic calendar now formally outlined, schools are expected to align their internal schedules accordingly and ensure compliance with the declared timelines. The Administration has reiterated that adherence to these dates is mandatory for all recognised institutions under its jurisdiction.
