The Andaman and Nicobar Police marked the 74th Police Raising Week with a cultural programme at Marina Park, Sri Vijaya Puram, bringing together police personnel, families of martyrs and members of the public in a tribute to service, sacrifice and national unity.
The programme, titled “NAMAN,” was organised as part of the Raising Week celebrations and was dedicated to remembering martyrs, police personnel and freedom fighters who laid down their lives in the service of the nation. The event drew a large gathering, including families of martyrs, serving police personnel and spectators from across the city, reflecting sustained public engagement with the police force and the significance attached to the annual observance.
Senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and Police attended the programme, which was held in the presence of the Director General of Police Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The presence of senior leadership underscored the institutional importance of the Raising Week, which commemorates the formation of the police force and its evolving role in public service.
The cultural evening featured a series of performances aimed at highlighting patriotic sentiment and cultural diversity. Patriotic songs and brass band performances formed a central part of the programme, alongside cultural dances that showcased India’s unity in diversity. The performances were presented by police personnel and associated participants, offering a view of the force beyond its operational responsibilities.
An awareness skit addressing issues such as drug abuse, alcoholism and cyber crime was also staged during the programme. The inclusion of these themes reflected the police force’s emphasis on social responsibility and preventive engagement with the community, particularly on issues that pose growing challenges in contemporary society.
Officials associated with the event noted that such programmes serve a dual purpose. While they provide an opportunity to honour sacrifice and service, they also help strengthen police-public bonding by creating shared spaces for interaction outside routine law enforcement settings. The turnout at Marina Park was seen as an indication of continued public interest in engaging with the police through community-oriented initiatives.
The Raising Week celebrations are observed annually to reaffirm the core values of the police force, including duty, integrity and service. Cultural programmes form a key component of the celebrations, offering a platform to recognise the contributions of personnel and to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
By combining remembrance with cultural expression and social messaging, the programme aimed to reinforce the broader role of the police as both a security institution and a stakeholder in community well-being. The event also highlighted the creative and cultural talents of police personnel, demonstrating dimensions of service that extend beyond enforcement duties.
As the 74th Police Raising Week celebrations continue, similar events are being organised to mark the occasion and to reinforce the values of unity, sacrifice and public service that underpin the functioning of the Andaman and Nicobar Police.
