The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has made a strong impression at the ongoing India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai by presenting a vibrant and visually engaging exhibition stall that highlights the islands’ growing potential as India’s eastern maritime frontier. The event, which runs from October 24 to 31, has drawn national and international attention to the Administration’s ambitious vision of transforming the archipelago into a dynamic blue economy hub integrating ports, fisheries, and sustainable tourism.
The A&N Administration’s stall, curated under the theme of “Blue Growth and Sustainable Prosperity,” offers an overview of projects designed to enhance connectivity, maritime trade, and tourism potential across the islands. It showcases how the administration is aligning local development with India’s broader maritime strategy in the Indo-Pacific region.
Among the major highlights is the Ports and Shipping section, which features the modernization of port infrastructure, expansion of harbour facilities, and improvement of inter-island and mainland shipping services. Exhibits demonstrate the shift toward digital port operations, enhanced cargo handling systems, and future-ready passenger services. Concepts such as yacht marinas, cruise terminals, and smart harbour designs have drawn strong investor curiosity, particularly regarding opportunities for private participation in the sector.
The Tourism and Cruise Promotion segment of the exhibition has also been a major attraction. Through captivating visuals and multimedia presentations, it showcases the islands’ pristine beaches, diving destinations, and eco-friendly tourism initiatives. A key feature is the proposal to develop Sri Vijaya Puram as a future cruise tourism hub, strategically positioned to connect the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with Southeast Asian regional circuits. The presentation emphasizes sustainable tourism models that balance visitor experiences with ecological preservation.
The Fisheries Development section reflects the administration’s focus on unlocking the potential of the islands’ marine wealth. It highlights deep-sea fishing projects, cold chain facilities, fish processing units, and initiatives such as the creation of a Tuna Cluster. Other blue economy ventures, including open-sea cage culture, seaweed farming, and pearl cultivation, illustrate the administration’s commitment to value addition and marine resource sustainability.
The concept of a Smart Integrated Harbour at Mayabunder has captured the attention of visitors and industry stakeholders alike. Designed with blue, green, and smart components, the project integrates multimodal connectivity with a focus on sustainability and local economic empowerment. It represents the administration’s model for future port development that harmonizes commerce with climate-conscious design.
Adding an interactive dimension to the display, the exhibition features a Virtual Reality (VR) experience offering visitors an immersive tour of the proposed Nancowrie Harbour and upcoming tourism infrastructure projects. The VR simulation allows participants to visualise the islands’ evolving maritime ecosystem and explore potential investment sites through a digital lens.
Visitors to the stall have included senior officials from various ministries, port authorities, maritime organisations, entrepreneurs, and students from shipping and fisheries institutes. Many attendees praised the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ balanced approach to development, combining modern infrastructure with ecological preservation. The stall has also received multiple investment inquiries, particularly from stakeholders interested in port development, fisheries, and sustainable tourism projects.
Brochures and promotional materials distributed at the stall provide detailed insights into the administration’s ongoing initiatives and the wide range of investment opportunities available in the islands’ maritime and tourism sectors.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ participation in India Maritime Week 2025 signifies the region’s growing importance in India’s maritime landscape. Through projects that integrate ports, tourism, and fisheries under the blue economy framework, the administration aims to create new avenues for livelihood, trade, and sustainable growth.
