Andaman & Nicobar to Host District and State Athletics Championships in January 2026

Date:

The Athletics Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has announced the schedule for the upcoming District and State Athletics (Track and Field) Championships, set to take place across multiple locations in January 2026. The competitions aim to provide a platform for athletes from across the islands to showcase their talent and qualify for higher-level events.

The North and Middle Andaman District Championship will be held on January 4 and 5, 2026, with the last date for entries fixed on January 3. Simultaneously, the Car Nicobar District Championship is scheduled for the same dates, January 4 and 5, 2026, with entries also closing on January 3. For South Andaman, the district-level championship is set for January 8 and 9, with the deadline for athlete registration on January 5. The State Open Athletics Championship will follow on January 10 and 11, with the final entry date also on January 5.

Athletes wishing to participate in any of the competitions have been instructed to submit their entries via the online registration system. The Athletics Association has provided separate registration links for each district and for the State Championship to streamline the process and ensure timely submission. Officials have emphasized the importance of using the online platform to avoid delays or missed opportunities.

The championships are expected to feature a full range of track and field events, including sprints, middle-distance and long-distance running, jumps, throws, and relay races. The events aim to identify emerging talent, promote competitive sportsmanship, and encourage participation across all age groups and skill levels.

By organizing district-level championships ahead of the State Open Athletics Championship, the association seeks to provide a structured pathway for athletes to progress to state-level recognition. Performance in district events will likely influence selections for higher-level competitions, making these championships a critical step in the athletic calendar for 2026.

Officials have highlighted that all participants must adhere to the regulations set by the Athletics Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, including compliance with competition rules, eligibility criteria, and health and safety guidelines. The association also encouraged schools, colleges, and sports clubs to facilitate athlete participation and ensure smooth registration.

The upcoming championships form part of a broader initiative by the administration to strengthen sports infrastructure, promote healthy lifestyles, and provide competitive opportunities for youth across the islands. With events scheduled over multiple days and locations, organizers anticipate high participation and active engagement from local communities.

Athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiasts have been advised to regularly check the official communication channels of the Athletics Association for any updates regarding schedules, event categories, and registration links. The association also plans to monitor the registration process closely to address any technical issues and ensure a seamless experience for participants.

The series of championships is expected to contribute significantly to the development of athletics in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, creating opportunities for talent recognition and fostering a culture of competitive sports.
