Andaman to Host Three-Day Monsoon Food and Spice Fest to Boost Local Tourism and Enterprise

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 23: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration will organise the Monsoon Food and Spice Fest 2026 from June 26 to 28 at the ITF Ground in Sri Vijaya Puram, with the event aimed at promoting local entrepreneurship, sustainable livelihoods and year-round tourism in the islands.

The three-day festival, being organised by the Tourism Department in collaboration with allied departments, will bring together local businesses, food vendors, self-help groups (SHGs), artists and cultural performers on a common platform to showcase the islands’ culinary, cultural and creative strengths. Beach sports activities will also be conducted at Corbyn’s Cove as part of the celebrations.

The event, branded as #MonsoonFlavours 2026, is expected to serve as a marketplace for local enterprises while highlighting the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as an all-season tourist destination. Officials said the festival will focus on encouraging participation from sectors linked to food, agriculture, handicrafts, tourism and creative industries.

The Tourism Department has invited hoteliers, restaurant owners, food vendors, SHGs and individual entrepreneurs to participate by setting up stalls for the sale and display of theme-based products. Special emphasis has been placed on the participation of vendors dealing in local spices, agro products, horticulture produce, organic products, traditional delicacies and innovative culinary offerings.

State associations have also been invited to participate in the festival. The administration has announced that stall space for SHGs and state associations will be provided free of rent to encourage wider participation and support community-based enterprises.

Apart from food and trade-related activities, the festival will feature cultural performances by local musical groups and bands. Creative volunteers will also have the opportunity to showcase their talents through poetry recitations, skits, instrumental performances, live art demonstrations and other forms of artistic expression.

To encourage public participation, indoor competitions including arm wrestling and chess will be organised during the event, with prizes to be awarded to winners.

The administration has also made provisions for artists to exhibit paintings and other creative works during the festival. Exhibition space for artists will be allotted free of cost to promote local art and creative expression.

Interested participants have been asked to submit their details through email to the Tourism Department on or before June 24, 2026. Application forms for stall allotment can be downloaded from the official website of the Department of Tourism, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, or collected from the Operational Section of the Directorate of Information, Publicity and Tourism during office hours.

According to the schedule issued by the department, completed application forms must be submitted by 11 a.m. on June 24. The committee responsible for allotting stalls will finalise allocations on the same day by 4 p.m.

Officials said the festival is intended to create economic opportunities for local stakeholders while offering residents and visitors an opportunity to experience the islands’ food traditions, cultural diversity and creative talent under one platform during the monsoon season.

The event forms part of broader efforts to strengthen tourism-led economic activity and provide greater visibility to local products, enterprises and cultural initiatives across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
