The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has released a Special Edition Newsletter dedicated to India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, emphasizing the Islands’ strategic significance in advancing India’s maritime aspirations. The publication, launched by the Chief Secretary during a senior officers’ meeting in Sri Vijaya Puram, captures the Administration’s participation at the national maritime forum held recently in Mumbai.
The newsletter presents a detailed account of the Islands’ growing role in India’s maritime domain, outlining ongoing and proposed projects that aim to position the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a vital maritime hub in the Bay of Bengal. It highlights flagship initiatives showcased during IMW 2025, including the Great Nicobar Island Project, the proposed Ship Repair Hub at Diglipur, and the Integrated Fishing Harbour at Mayabunder.
According to officials, the publication reflects the Administration’s continuing efforts to align regional development priorities with the national maritime vision. The Chief Secretary, while releasing the newsletter, urged all departments to align their local initiatives with the national strategy under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. This long-term roadmap seeks to enhance India’s maritime capacity, connectivity, and blue economy potential.
The newsletter also covers discussions held during IMW 2025 on investment opportunities in ports, shipping, fisheries, and tourism sectors. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ participation at the event demonstrated the Administration’s proactive approach to promoting public-private partnerships and attracting investors to develop sustainable marine infrastructure in the Islands.
Officials said the publication aims to serve as both a record of participation and a strategic communication tool to showcase the Islands’ readiness for maritime growth. It underlines how improved port infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, and diversified economic activities can transform the Islands into a major maritime centre for India’s eastern seaboard.
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands occupy a critical position along international shipping routes, offering strategic advantages for trade, logistics, and naval operations. The Administration’s emphasis on maritime infrastructure development is in sync with national efforts to make India a leading maritime nation. Initiatives such as the ship repair hub and integrated fishing harbours are expected to create local employment opportunities and strengthen the blue economy.
The newsletter also highlights tourism-linked maritime initiatives, including plans to develop the Islands as a cruise and diving tourism destination and to promote game fishing as a niche adventure activity. By integrating these tourism offerings with maritime infrastructure, the Administration aims to boost the Islands’ economic sustainability while preserving ecological balance.
Officials noted that the publication will be circulated among maritime stakeholders, investors, and government agencies to encourage further engagement with the Islands’ developmental projects. The Administration’s active representation at IMW 2025, followed by the newsletter’s release, signals a renewed focus on positioning the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a key contributor to India’s maritime transformation.
The Special Edition Newsletter thus serves as both a summary of achievements and a forward-looking document, encapsulating the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s ongoing commitment to building a robust maritime ecosystem. By strengthening its infrastructure, fostering investment, and aligning with national maritime objectives, the Administration aims to transform the Islands into India’s Eastern Maritime Hub, contributing significantly to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
