Andaman Marathon Set to Make a Grand Comeback in February 2026

After a hiatus of five years, the Andaman Marathon is set to return in February 2026, promising to re-energize the island’s sports and tourism scene. A preparatory meeting chaired by Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Sports) Chanchal Yadav, IAS, was held at the Secretariat to finalize arrangements for the event’s 10th edition, scheduled to take place in Sri Vijaya Puram on February 8, 2026.

The prestigious marathon will be organized by the Andaman & Nicobar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ANCCI) with the support of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, bringing together professional runners, fitness enthusiasts, and residents in a celebration of athletic spirit and community participation.

During the meeting, Yadav welcomed the resumption of the event and emphasized its potential to position the Andaman & Nicobar Islands prominently on the global tourism map. She urged all departments to coordinate effectively and ensure the event is organized on a grand scale, highlighting both the islands’ natural beauty and the growing culture of sportsmanship. The Administration, she assured, will extend full logistical support to facilitate the smooth conduct of the marathon, which is expected to attract participants from across the country.

Representing the organizing body, President of ANCCI, K. Chandrasekaran, expressed enthusiasm about reviving the event after a long gap. He noted that the Chamber aims to make this edition “iconic,” blending professional-level competition with community involvement. Chandrasekaran also outlined the marathon’s structure, which will feature multiple categories for men, women, senior citizens, and children, ensuring inclusivity and wider public participation.

The Andaman Marathon has historically been more than a sporting event, it serves as a platform for cultural exchange, environmental awareness, and public unity. Over the years, it has evolved into one of the most anticipated annual gatherings in the islands, drawing both local and visiting runners to experience the scenic routes that wind through coastal roads and lush landscapes.

Its return in 2026 marks a significant moment for both sports and tourism in the Union Territory. The event is expected to attract athletes from mainland India as well as international participants, adding to the islands’ reputation as a destination that combines adventure, fitness, and nature.

Officials said preparations are already underway to manage crowd control, route safety, hydration points, and first-aid stations along the course. Coordination between the Sports Department, Police, Health Services, and civic agencies will be critical to ensure that the event runs seamlessly.

With renewed enthusiasm and institutional support, the 10th edition of the Andaman Marathon symbolizes the resilience of the islands’ sporting culture. The revival is expected to provide a much-needed boost to local businesses, hospitality, and tourism activities, creating opportunities for both residents and visitors to experience the islands beyond their scenic allure.

As planning advances, stakeholders hope that the marathon will once again become a flagship event, one that not only showcases the physical endurance of its participants but also reflects the islands’ enduring commitment to health, harmony, and collective progress. The 2026 edition aims to set a new benchmark, blending the excitement of competition with the larger vision of unity through sports.
