Island Coconut Festival 2025 Concludes in Andaman with Competitions and Cultural Programs

The Island Coconut Festival–2025 concluded on October 10 at the ITF Ground, wrapping up two days of vibrant celebrations, cultural showcases, and competitions. Organized by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with allied Departments and Associations, the festival highlighted the cultural, culinary, and economic significance of coconut in the islands while promoting local craftsmanship and community engagement.

The closing ceremony featured a prize distribution event attended by the Director (IP&T), Vinayak Chamadia, who served as the chief guest. In his address, Chamadia emphasized the central role of coconut in the cultural and economic life of island residents and noted that the festival reflects the rich traditions and community spirit of the region. He also assured that similar initiatives will continue to preserve local customs and enhance tourism prospects across the islands.

Throughout the festival, the Department of Art & Culture organized a range of cultural programs, attracting a large number of visitors. Performances by KRG Kalai Kaveri and MJ Music Academy showcased semi-classical, folk, and fusion dance, captivating the audience. The Sitesh Live Orchestra and Soul Music Association provided musical entertainment, adding vibrancy to the festive atmosphere.

Visitors explored numerous stalls offering local products, handicrafts, and coconut-based delicacies. Children participated in activities, embracing the lively spirit of the event. The festival also featured competitive events, recognizing talent across food, arts, and games. Cash prizes were awarded by the Tourism Department to winners in various categories.

The Island Coconut Festival–2025 concluded with winners announced across multiple competitions. In the Food Stall category, Nicobar secured first place, followed by Calcutta Sweets Stall in second and Kerala Samajam in third. The Art & Handicraft competition saw Sobha Rani claim first, Kamla second, and Urmila Chakraborty third. Coconut Dehusking for men was won by Sulaiman Toppo, with Ruben Tete second and Dilli Rao third, while for women, Mahalakshmi took first, Saifun Nisha second, and Sapna Adarsh third. The Cooking Competition recognized Shehnaaz Begum as the winner, M Naveena in second place, and Uma Devi third. In the Painting Competition, primary level winners were Y Niharika, Ishana Topno, and R Diksha, while senior level winners included Zia, Anushka Singh, and R Uday Kumar. The Chess Competition concluded with Rushil Y in first place, Ronnie Ronaldo second, and Shrestha Vijay third, marking a spirited end to the festival’s competitive events.

The festival successfully brought together the local community and tourists, celebrating the multifaceted uses of coconut and promoting a sense of cultural pride. The Department of Tourism noted the strong public participation and encouraged continued engagement with similar initiatives in the future, reinforcing the islands’ rich heritage and creative talent.
