Andaman Pushes Film Tourism Pitch at India International Film Tourism Conclave

The scenic filming potential of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was presented before global filmmakers and tourism stakeholders at the 12th edition of the India International Film Tourism Conclave held in Mumbai on March 10 and 11, where representatives from film commissions, tourism boards, production houses and creative industry professionals gathered to explore film tourism opportunities.

The participation of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at the conclave placed the archipelago among emerging filming destinations seeking to attract domestic and international productions. The Islands’ pavilion engaged with filmmakers, producers and location scouts who attended the event to identify new locations for film and OTT productions.

Officials representing the Islands used the platform to present the natural landscapes and visual appeal of the archipelago, highlighting its pristine beaches, dense tropical forests and distinctive coastal terrain. These features were showcased as potential filming locations capable of supporting diverse storytelling formats across cinema and digital platforms.

During interactions with industry representatives, officials also indicated that efforts are underway to formulate a dedicated Film Tourism Policy for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The proposed policy aims to streamline the process of granting filming permissions and provide facilitation support to production teams interested in shooting in the Islands.

Authorities said the initiative seeks to position the Islands as a competitive international filming destination by reducing procedural barriers and improving coordination between filmmakers and local authorities. The policy is expected to create a structured framework that can support film production activities while promoting the Islands as a global location for cinema and digital content.

The pavilion of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands drew attention from producers and location scouts exploring new destinations that offer distinctive visual environments for storytelling. Representatives engaged in discussions with production houses interested in evaluating the logistical and creative possibilities of filming in the region.

Participation in the conclave also allowed officials to build connections with filmmakers and industry professionals from different countries and Indian states who attended the event. The gathering provided a platform for discussions on location marketing, film tourism development and opportunities for international co-productions.

Industry stakeholders at the conclave examined the role of cinema in promoting tourism destinations across the world. Discussions focused on how film and digital content can influence travel trends, enhance destination visibility and contribute to local economic development through tourism and creative collaborations.

Officials representing the Islands indicated that engagement with film industry professionals at the conclave could help expand awareness about the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a potential filming location. Strengthening ties with production companies and location scouts is expected to encourage more film and OTT productions to consider the Islands for future projects.

The conclave also hosted an awards ceremony recognising films across multiple languages, acknowledging the growing influence of cinema in showcasing destinations and cultural landscapes to global audiences.

By presenting the archipelago’s landscapes and engaging with film industry stakeholders at the international event, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands sought to position themselves within the expanding global film tourism network. Authorities believe that attracting film productions could contribute to tourism promotion while opening new avenues for collaboration between the film industry and the Islands’ tourism sector.
