Partial Response to Andaman Bandh, Transport Services Affected

Private transport disrupted while government services and tourism remain unaffected

The bandh observed across parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday received a partial response, leading to limited disruption in daily life across the islands.

Several private operators, including sections of the buses association, tour auto associations, and a few private establishments, remained shut in support of the bandh. The suspension of private transport services caused inconvenience to the general public, with basic commuting and local movement being partially affected in several areas.

However, government-run services continued to function without disruption. Offices, schools, and other government establishments operated normally, with routine official work and academic activities proceeding as scheduled.

Tourism-related activities also remained unaffected. Flight operations continued as per schedule, and movements of tour operators within airport premises were reported to be normal. Officials confirmed that tourism services across the islands functioned smoothly, ensuring no inconvenience to visitors.

Meanwhile, the Andaman Chamber of Commerce maintained a neutral stance on the bandh. The chamber issued instructions to commercial establishments, allowing them to take independent decisions based on their individual interests.

In contrast, the NCCI and the Tribal Council extended their support to the bandh, stating that the call was backed in the interest of college students and their ongoing concerns.

Overall, while the bandh led to partial disruption due to curtailed private transport services, the normal functioning of government institutions and tourism operations ensured that the islands did not come to a standstill.
