Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 14: The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) has invited Islanders to participate in a series of public events planned to commemorate the nation’s 80th Independence Day, with a live military band concert and illuminated naval vessels set to transform the Marina waterfront into the centrepiece of the celebrations on August 14 and 15.
The programme will begin with a live performance by the Army and Navy bands at Flag Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, on August 14 from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm. The concert forms part of a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting patriotism, national pride and the spirit of unity among citizens. The event will remain open to all Islanders.
According to the programme schedule, the concert will feature a selection of patriotic and popular musical compositions performed by musicians from the Armed Forces. The performances are intended to create a festive atmosphere in the run-up to Independence Day while showcasing the musical traditions of the services.

The celebrations will continue with a joint illumination of ships and vessels anchored off the Marina sea front. Participating vessels from the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and the Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) will illuminate their ships on August 14 and August 15 between 5.45 pm and 10 pm.
A major attraction has been scheduled for August 15, when the participating vessels will simultaneously fire colourful flares and switch on contour illumination lights at 5.39 pm. The coordinated display is expected to create a striking visual spectacle over the waters off Sri Vijaya Puram.
The combined programme of live military music and illuminated ships has been planned as part of the Independence Day celebrations to add ceremonial grandeur while reinforcing the themes of patriotism, national unity and national pride.
The Andaman and Nicobar Command has invited members of the public to gather at Flag Point and the Marina sea front to witness the events and participate in the celebrations marking the country’s 80th Independence Day.
The public events are expected to bring together residents and visitors as the Islands observe one of the country’s most significant national occasions through ceremonial performances and maritime displays.
