Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi, focusing on counterterrorism strategies and dismantling the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory. The meeting underscored a mission-mode approach to targeting terrorist infrastructure, financing networks, and overground support systems.
During the meeting, Shah emphasised eliminating terrorists in higher-altitude regions of Jammu and Kashmir while ensuring zero infiltration along the Line of Control and the International Border. The Union Home Minister stressed coordinated operations between the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, and Central Armed Police Forces to ensure complete synergy in anti-terror efforts.
Following the meeting, Shah took to X to acknowledge the role of security agencies in crippling the terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated that counterterror operations would continue to target terrorist infrastructure, financing channels, and support networks, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of lasting peace in the region.
The review also covered recent joint operations against terrorists of Pakistani origin, reportedly supported by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. Shah appreciated the improved ground situation, attributing it to better security management and coordinated efforts among multiple agencies.
The first security review of 2026 saw participation from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat, and CID Chief Nitish Kumar. Central officials included Union Home Secretary Gobind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, and Director Generals of central armed forces.
Officials said Shah underscored the importance of dismantling the support ecosystem for terrorism, including overground workers, sympathisers, and illicit financing channels such as drug smuggling, which sustain terrorist networks. The Union Home Minister expressed hope that 2026 would witness the eradication of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, enabling residents to live in peace with dignity, and access better education and professional opportunities.
The meeting reflected a continued emphasis on operational readiness, strategic coordination, and intelligence-driven actions to neutralise threats, while safeguarding the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
