Rajasthan Clears Syama Prasad Mukherjee Name for New Ajmer Stadium

Date:

Jaipur, July 6: The Ajmer Development Authority (ADA) has approved a proposal to name the multipurpose stadium under construction in Ajmer after Syama Prasad Mukherjee, marking a key decision in the development of one of the city’s major public sports infrastructure projects.

The proposal, initiated by Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, was approved for the stadium being constructed near Panchsheel Vijayaraje Nagar. According to the announcement, the facility will be known as the “Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium.”

Devnani said the naming of the stadium coincides with the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mukherjee and described it as a tribute to his contribution to Indian nationalism, national unity, education and cultural awareness. He said dedicating the stadium in his name would serve as a lasting source of inspiration for younger generations.

The multipurpose stadium is being developed at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 12 crore through the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT) Fund. The project is planned with modern sports infrastructure aimed at providing athletes with national-level facilities and creating improved opportunities for sporting talent.

According to Devnani, the stadium will have a seating capacity of around 80,000 spectators and is expected to become one of Ajmer’s major sports and public infrastructure assets. He said the facility will be capable of hosting national and state-level sporting competitions while strengthening sports infrastructure in the Ajmer North region.

He noted that after the redevelopment of Patel Maidan under the Smart City project, the city required an alternative venue capable of accommodating large public gatherings and sporting events. The new stadium is intended to meet that requirement by providing a modern multipurpose facility.

Apart from sporting events, the stadium is also expected to host large-scale social, cultural and public programmes, expanding Ajmer’s capacity to organise major events while providing an additional public venue for citizens.

Devnani said the state government continues to focus on promoting sports culture and strengthening sports infrastructure to create better opportunities for young athletes. He added that the project is expected to provide an important platform for emerging local sporting talent.

Describing the project as a milestone in Ajmer’s development, Devnani said infrastructure development is being strengthened across multiple sectors, including education, healthcare, roads, drinking water, sports and civic amenities. He stated that the stadium will become a significant addition to the city’s public infrastructure once completed.

The naming decision comes as construction of the multipurpose stadium continues under the Ajmer Development Authority’s development plan.
