ADTOI Andaman Chapter Marks One Year With Cleanliness Drive in South Andaman

The Andaman Chapter of the Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) marked the completion of one year of its operations by organising a Swachhta Abhiyan at Veer Savarkar Prerna Park in South Andaman on Sunday morning, reinforcing its focus on cleanliness and community responsibility.

The cleanliness drive was led by Mohan Vinod, Chapter Chairman of ADTOI Andaman Chapter, and saw active participation from members of the association. The initiative was undertaken as part of the chapter’s one-year completion celebrations and aimed to promote public cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and civic awareness in a commonly used public space.

Bhoominathan, Up Adhyaksh of the Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, was also present during the programme. His participation was seen as a show of institutional support for community-led cleanliness initiatives carried out by professional bodies operating in the tourism sector.

Addressing participants during the programme, Mohan Vinod acknowledged the presence of Bhoominathan and expressed appreciation for his attendance during the early hours despite other official commitments. He also thanked members of the ADTOI Andaman Chapter for their cooperation and participation in the cleanliness drive, stating that collective involvement was key to the successful execution of the initiative.

The Swachhta Abhiyan involved cleaning activities within the premises of Veer Savarkar Prerna Park, a public location frequented by residents and visitors. Members of the association participated in maintaining the cleanliness of the area as part of the drive, aligning the activity with broader objectives of environmental care and responsible use of public spaces.

According to ADTOI representatives, the initiative reflects the organisation’s intent to go beyond its core professional role and engage with issues of public interest. The chapter stated that promoting cleanliness and environmental responsibility forms an essential part of sustainable tourism practices, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions such as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The event also underscored the role of tourism-linked organisations in supporting national cleanliness efforts at the local level. By conducting the drive at a public park, the association aimed to contribute to awareness about maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in shared spaces.

ADTOI Andaman Chapter officials indicated that the Swachhta Abhiyan was one of the activities planned as part of its one-year milestone, reflecting its commitment to social responsibility alongside tourism promotion. The chapter reiterated that such initiatives help build a positive relationship between the tourism industry, local communities, and public institutions.

The programme concluded with members reaffirming their commitment to responsible tourism practices and continued participation in community-oriented activities that support environmental sustainability in the islands.
