Adani, Google Join Hands for $15B AI Data Centre in Visakhapatnam to Boost India’s Tech Growth

In a major boost to India’s digital and clean energy infrastructure, Adani Enterprises, through its joint venture AdaniConneX, and Google have announced a $15 billion partnership to establish the country’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The multi-billion-dollar collaboration, spread over five years from 2026 to 2030, aims to create a gigawatt-scale AI data centre network supported by a robust subsea cable system and green energy infrastructure. The initiative is designed to strengthen India’s AI capabilities and enable large-scale computing for enterprises, researchers, and technology innovators.

According to a joint statement, the Google AI hub in Visakhapatnam will be developed in partnership with AdaniConneX and supported by ecosystem partners such as Airtel. The project’s foundational pillars include purpose-built AI data centre infrastructure, clean energy generation, and advanced transmission networks to power high-performance computing systems.

The investment will also expand renewable energy capacity in Andhra Pradesh, with plans for new transmission lines, innovative energy storage systems, and green power projects that will support both the AI campus and the broader state grid. The companies said the initiative will enhance the reliability and resilience of India’s electricity network while advancing the country’s sustainability goals.

Adani Group Chair Gautam Adani described the partnership as a milestone in India’s technological journey. “The Adani Group is proud to partner with Google on this historic project that will define the future of India’s digital landscape,” he said. “This is more than an investment in infrastructure—it is an investment in the soul of a rising nation. Visakhapatnam is now set to become a global destination for technology, and we are thrilled to be the architects of this monumental journey.”

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said the initiative underscores Google’s long-term commitment to building India’s AI ecosystem. “To unlock India’s massive potential in the AI age, we are investing in the Google AI hub, which will provide the critical foundation to drive growth and enable businesses, researchers, and creators to build and scale with AI,” he said. “Working with Adani, we will bring cutting-edge resources closer to communities and customers alike, offering the performance, security, and scalability to innovate and thrive on a global stage.”

The AI hub and its supporting infrastructure are expected to generate tens of thousands of jobs across technology, construction, and renewable energy sectors. The project also aims to accelerate digital inclusivity and position Visakhapatnam as a global technology and innovation hub, contributing significantly to India’s goal of becoming a leading AI-driven economy.

By combining expertise in renewable energy, infrastructure, and digital technology, Adani and Google’s partnership represents one of the largest private technology investments in India’s history, marking a new chapter in the nation’s digital transformation.
