Outpatient Department (OPD) registrations at G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram, will now be conducted exclusively through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) or Health ID as part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) rollout in the Union Territory, according to official information released in connection with the initiative.
The move forms part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, a Government of India programme launched in 2021 to establish an integrated digital health ecosystem nationwide. The mission focuses on bridging gaps among healthcare stakeholders through digital platforms and enabling secure, standardised exchange of health data.
The ABHA or Health ID provides individuals with a unique digital health identity that allows access to personal health records and their secure sharing across healthcare facilities, strictly subject to patient consent. Authorities state that the system is intended to streamline patient identification, improve access to medical records and enhance healthcare delivery through digital integration.

With the latest implementation at G.B. Pant Hospital, OPD registrations will require patients to present either their ABHA/Health ID, the mobile number linked to the ABHA account or an Aadhaar-linked mobile number. The requirement is expected to support quicker OPD processing, accurate patient identification and secure digital transfer of medical information.
A Scan & Share facility has also been introduced to facilitate OPD registrations at G.B. Pant Hospital, Sri Vijaya Puram, R.P. Hospital in Mayabunder and B.J.R. Hospital in Car Nicobar. Through this feature, patients can scan a QR code to generate an OPD token, a measure intended to reduce waiting time and speed up access to services.
To assist patients with the transition, dedicated personnel have been stationed at OPD registration counters in the concerned hospitals. The support staff are tasked with helping individuals use the Scan & Share system and assisting with ABHA creation where required.
Additionally, a separate desk has been established at the OPD of G.B. Pant Hospital specifically for ABHA or Health ID creation. The desk operates from Monday to Friday between 3 pm and 4.30 pm, with designated staff available to facilitate account registration for patients who have not yet created their digital health identity.
Authorities have also indicated that individuals may generate their ABHA/Health ID independently by accessing the official ABDM website or by visiting the nearest Common Services Centre (CSC). These options are intended to expand accessibility for patients seeking to complete registration outside hospital premises.
The implementation is positioned as part of broader digital health reforms aimed at improving coordination among healthcare facilities and enhancing patient convenience. Officials have sought cooperation from patients and attendants to support the smooth adoption of the digital health framework as the mission continues to expand across healthcare institutions.
